Johnny’s Jig

I love this little tune. I have no idea where I learned it, but one day I found it fully formed in my head. I asked among my colleagues and nobody knew what it was. I hung onto it quietly for a couple of years and started to think maybe I had actually composed it — maybe in a dream like Coleridge wrote “Kubla Khan” while under the influence of laudanum. Then I heard a band somewhere play it in a medley and found that it was Archie’s tune, obviously written for his son John. What a letdown…. I’m not someone who memorizes tunes quickly, so I still have no idea how it got into my repertoire. Fantastic little tune though.  JM
