When my Grandfathers brother, Alex McRae passed away, I received some of his music books. Alex was a piper and served in WW1 at Passchendael, I am also a piper. Inside one of his books I found a handwritten poem on a piece of paper and it titled The Alamein Pipes on the Road to Berlin. I have no idea who wrote this, but I thought it should be shared.
The Alamein Pipes on the Road to Berlin
They skirled through the thunder at El Alamein
They led the Eighth Army again and again
    The 51st leading Montgomery in
Wi the Alamein pipes on the road to Berlin

The Seaforth, Glengarians, Cameron’s as well
The Black Watch who are known as the “Ladies from Hell”
    The 51st leading Montgomery in
Wi the Alamein pipes on the road to Berlin

    They came from the crofts
    They came from the glens
    They came from the pits
    They were all fighting men
To Africa’s desert and Sicily’s shore
From Normandy’s beaches through Europe they tore

Now welcome the fighters home to the glen
And welcome the peace they bring wi them
The far away lilt stealin’ over the lynn
It’s the Alamein pipes on the road to Berlin
