This is an old tune from the Border area between England and Scotland, and written or adapted for the 9-note scale of a Border bagpipe, a bellows-blown bagpipe with a roughly Highland scale, but pitched in the key of A440. Though the tune can be played on the Great Highland Bagpipe, it is particularly effective on Scottish smallpipes or Border pipes. In the 5th line, the trill mark over the E in the third bar means to play a vibrato on E by wiggling the D finger while you play E.
