Ladies of the Alamo, The

Gavin Stoddart says of this tune:

“I was asked to compose a tune to commemorate the action of (I believe) 4 ladies from San Antonio, who in the 1920s gained support to save the buildings of the ‘Alamo’ from demolition to make way for hotels etc. I took part in the 150th anniversary of the battle and played the tune for the first time in public. I suppose given the circumstances it should have been a joyous tune but I was asked to make it a slow air.”
