Loch Monar

  My father was brought up at the west end of Loch Monar with Willie Ross being a close family friend and tutor to my father’s two older brothers. When my father died in 1990, a well known piper friend agreed to include the tune Loch Monar at the funeral, though none of us had heard it in decades. I was helping to carry the coffin to the grave when Iain struck up Loch Monar and I remember being astounded when my knees suddenly buckled under me. Fortunately I recovered, but I have had a huge reverence for the tune ever since.
