PM Colin Miller, Branch 50 R.C.L.

Colin Miller was a Glasgow man and Pipe Major of my first pipe band, the Kitchener Branch 50 Royal Canadian Legion, in the late 1960s. Colin was not a great player himself, but he was the perfect pipe major for a band full of kids – generous, understanding, and with a good idea of how to build a team. We won Grade 3 in Ontario twice under him, and in that three years I learned how to understand and translate Glaswegian for my parents. Colin Miller and his ilk are unsung heroes of piping.
