Very Difficult

In her book “Piping Traditions of the North of Scotland,” Bridget MacKenzie says this tune was written about Angus MacMillan Fraser, a Scots-Canadian friend of D.C. Mather’s, who was born in Glengarry County, Ontario, near Maxville. It was also the title of a popular Ralph Connor book, published in 1901. D.R. MacLennan claimed that when his half-brother G.S. made his only known recording, as a boy of 10 in 1894, this as yet unnamed tune was on it. (The recording has never been found.) Mather probably gave the tune its title around the time Connor’s book came out, since Mather apparently said he ‘finished making’ the tune around 1901.
