Stewart Robertson, Bulawayo

Intermediate

A resident of northeastern Ontario, Albert Stewart wrote this while living in South Africa. Peter MacLeod Jr. was also resident there and it became a favourite of his. Some of Peter’s nuances were incorporated into the final version of the tune. It’s a beauty, and rarely played. Stuart Robertson was also known as “Bert” and “Jock” and was a nephew of piping great and Scots Guards Pipe Major J. B. Robertson.

  • Hello

Are there any recordings of this tune during a performance , tattoo or parade etc that are available?

    Thanks

  • Hello Jim,
Yes, this is a very delightful tune! Thanks for making it available!!
And yes, it is on a recording – probably from the 1960s – by The Black Watch R.H.R of Canada. It is the first track on Side B . . . and it is misnamed as “Struan Robertson”. It is paired with “Bonnie McAlpine” (found in John Wilson’s Book 3). I’m not sure if I can attach jpegs of the album to this post, but if not, the cover art is black with a drum, dirk and tartan inset. The album is titled: “The Black Watch R.H.R of Canada” and was pressed by London International.
    Thanks again,
    Tony
